Board Member: Delaney Weiler

Board Highlights,
Background & Inspiration

Delaney Weiler has been in EMS for 15 years. She felt strongly drawn to it. Drawn to helping people, and drawn to the medicine itself. What kept pulling her further was realizing that there are so many different paths to take within EMS.

Her most memorable moment from her early days was her first EMS call as a paramedic intern. The patient had been bitten by a dog, and Delaney ended up calling the helicopter. It was an early glimpse of the high-stakes, fast-moving world she'd go on to make her career.

Career Path

Delaney's journey started as a cadet on the volunteer fire department — a path she began in high school and has now been on for 15 years. From there she went EMT, then straight to paramedic. "Zero to hero," as she describes it. She fell in love with it. From paramedic she went on to earn her critical care paramedic certification, and then became a flight medic for LifeLink in Marshfield.

Along the way she has taken on additional certifications and responsibilities: she is an EMS Instructor II with Mid-State Technical College teaching EMT, and serves as EMS Training Officer at Vesper Fire Department. She currently works at LifeStar Ambulance and Vesper Fire Department.

Within WEMSA, Delaney has served as co-chair of the Education Committee and on the Membership Committee.

Getting Involved with WEMSA

What excites Delaney most about being part of WEMSA is the conference — the quality of the event, the range of class levels, Student Day, and having everyone able to participate. Representing EMS providers across Wisconsin is important to her because of the ability to make a difference outside of calls on the ambulance and to be involved with different departments across the state.

Looking Ahead

During her time on the WEMSA board, Delaney hopes to make a little bit of a difference — helping with the conference, supporting education, and helping continue to show that Wisconsin EMS is willing and able to grow and improve patient care.

A little more about Delaney

Outside of EMS, Delaney trains in jujitsu at Elite Gym in Point, kayaks, and loves being outdoors. When it's time to unwind, she enjoys sitting down to watch a good show or movie.
