Board Member: Wyatt Sachen

Background & Inspiration
Wyatt Sachen has been in EMS for 12 years, but his connection to it started long before that. He grew up in the EMS and fire departments, and both of his parents were very involved as an EMT and firefighter. One memory from early on still stands out: he had just turned 18 and was still in EMT class when he responded to a car wreck with the fire department.
Career Path
Wyatt has served in many different aspects of EMS. He worked as an EMT for many years before becoming an AEMT, and he has spent the last five years working here in Wisconsin. He currently works full time as an air medical (helicopter) dispatcher with Life Link III and runs part time with Emplify Health EMS. He is also a CPR Instructor.
He first became involved with WEMSA in 2023 because he wanted to be more involved with the future of EMS. Today he serves as Secretary on the WEMSA Executive Committee, chairs the Membership Committee, and is a member of the Education Committee.
Getting Involved with WEMSA
"What excites me most about being part of WEMSA is being able to connect with all different providers, from large paid services to the very rural EMR level services, and trying to assist them in being exceptional providers for the communities that they serve," he says.
For Wyatt, representing EMS providers in Wisconsin means "providing support and advocacy to agencies that aren't always able to voice their concerns. We are the voice of Wisconsin EMS."
One challenge he sees providers facing today is that EMS is not an essential service in Wisconsin, and he believes WEMSA can help by advocating with legislation.
Personal Connection & Impact
Being part of WEMSA has impacted Wyatt's career by connecting him with exceptional providers and teaching him "more aspects of our profession that aren't always provided when you are new to EMS or not a director." The most rewarding part of serving on the board, he says, has been "gaining friendships and learning to provide for our colleagues that need us most."
His favorite WEMSA event is the conference. "The WEMSA conference plays a big part in bringing providers together," he says. "It brings our Wisconsin EMS community together."
Fun Facts
Wyatt is an implant from Iowa. He is always planning his next trip, but he is always up for unplanned adventures as well. Outside of EMS, you can find him floating in a kayak and being outdoors in the summer and ski patrolling in the winter. He also enjoys mentoring and helping others succeed.
Looking Ahead
"During my time on the WEMSA board, besides gaining friendships, I hope to continue building a stronger EMS community through advocacy, education and collaboration," Wyatt says. "I want to help make a difference for the future of EMS."
His vision for the future of EMS in Wisconsin is to make EMS an essential service. "To me, WEMSA matters because WEMSA is the voice of Wisconsin EMS."
