Vice President: Evelynn Dax

Board Highlights,
Background & Inspiration

Evelynn Dax has been in EMS since 2007. She first got involved because she wanted to give back to her community and make a real difference in moments when people need help the most. The person who inspired her was her stepfather who wasa first responder and police officer. "He was so selfless," she says. "When his pager would go off, he would drop everything to go and help someone he didn't even know." That kind of service stuck with her.

One of her favorite memories from her first EMS class? All of the creative ways they could splint each other.

Career Path

Evelynn started as an EMT-B and has built a career that spans multiple services and a steadily growing set of credentials. She has worked with Washburn Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Tomah Ambulance over the years. Along the way she earned her Paramedic certification with critical care, became an EMS Instructor I and II, and is an AHA Instructor, bringing both field experience and a passion for education to everything she does.

Getting Involved with WEMSA

Evelynn has been a WEMSA member since 2008 and joined the board in 2020. She served on the education committee, including as co-chair, and most recently served as Vice President of the Board of Directors. What excites her most about being part of WEMSA is helping with the conference and taking part in Student Day.

Her connections through WEMSA have shaped both her career and her personal life. "Being part of WEMSA has allowed me to make connections with so many people," she says.

"WEMSA ensures EMS providers have access to the tools, knowledge, and support they need to grow."  — Evelynn Dax

Why Representation Matters

Representing EMS providers in Wisconsin matters deeply to Evelynn. In her own words: "Our providers face increasing demands, shrinking resources, and rising expectations. Representation helps ensure that both small volunteer services and large metropolitan systems receive fair support, funding, and recognition."

The most rewarding part of her time on the board? Seeing the PTSD bill get passed. And her favorite WEMSA event is Student Day because "It's hectic and loud, but it's exciting and rewarding."

Looking Ahead

As Evelynn terms out of her board seat, she reflects on what she hopes she's contributed. "I hope that I helped to make a difference. I am grateful for all of the connections I was able to make!"

Her vision for the future of EMS in Wisconsin is a field where providers receive competitive pay, mental health support, modern training, and clear career pathways — so Wisconsin can recruit and retain the professionals its communities depend on.

A couple fun facts about Evelynn:
  1. She loves to travel and explore other countries.
  2. She has two Dalmatians.
  3. She enjoys cooking and baking.
