Treasurer: Jay Young
How It Started
In 1990, a fellow EMT in Bloomer tapped Jay Young on the shoulder and said, "You should consider becoming an EMT." That simple ask changed the course of Jay's life, and eventually his family's.
Jay wasn't sure what to expect when he signed on with Bloomer Community Ambulance Service. He had a full-time career as an engineer in the computer industry, and EMS was never part of a grand plan. But the moment he started helping people in their time of need, he was hooked.
A Family Legacy
More than three decades later, Jay is still showing up. And he's not alone — all three of his sons followed in his footsteps, each balancing part-time EMT work alongside their own full-time careers. What began as a tap on the shoulder has grown into something much bigger: a family legacy rooted in service to their community.
Serving Wisconsin EMS
Beyond the ambulance bay, Jay has been a steady voice for Wisconsin EMS. Since 2018, he has served on the WEMSA Board of Directors, spending the last five years as Treasurer. He also serves as President of the Bloomer Ambulance Association.
His perspective as a rural, part-time provider has been especially valuable, a great reminder that EMS in Wisconsin looks many different ways, and every one of those ways deserves a seat at the table.
"I'm a people pleaser. I enjoy helping people." — Jay Young
Looking Ahead
As retirement draws closer, Jay is most looking forward to time with his grandchildren. But ask him if he'd do anything differently, and the answer is a clear no. That's the whole story, and it started with someone believing he had what it takes.
Thank you, Jay, for over 35 years of service to the Bloomer community and to EMS across Wisconsin.
