The Wisconsin EMS Association (WEMSA) is seeking dedicated EMS professionals to join its Board of Directors, a leadership body that plays a pivotal role in guiding the direction of emergency medical services in Wisconsin. With four board positions open this election cycle, we invite passionate, forward-thinking individuals to apply and contribute to the continued success of Wisconsin’s largest EMS association.

Serving on the WEMSA Board of Directors is an opportunity to lead, advocate, and shape the future of EMS. Our board members are deeply engaged in strategic planning, financial oversight, and advocacy efforts, ensuring that EMS professionals across the state have the resources, training, and support they need to serve their communities effectively. Board members come from diverse backgrounds, including rural, suburban, and urban EMS systems, representing a broad spectrum of experiences—full-time, part-time, paid-on-call, and volunteer services alike.

The Role and Impact of a Board Member

WEMSA Board Members are volunteer leaders committed to advancing the profession and ensuring the association remains strong, effective, and responsive to the needs of its members. Board members participate in quarterly meetings, committee work, and advocacy initiatives while also supporting major WEMSA events, such as the annual conference and educational programming.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape EMS Policy and Advocacy – Engage with legislators and policymakers to advocate for EMS funding, workforce initiatives, and regulatory improvements.
  • Enhance Professional Development – Contribute to the development of cutting-edge education, training programs, and resources for EMS providers.
  • Strengthen the EMS Community – Work alongside industry leaders, build professional networks, and ensure that EMS professionals have a voice at the state level.

Board members are expected to bring strategic insight, industry experience, and a commitment to advancing EMS, whether through advocacy, education, finance, membership engagement, or leadership development.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is ideal for EMS professionals who are:

  • Passionate about the future of EMS in Wisconsin.
  • Experienced in leadership, education, policy, or administration within EMS.
  • Committed to serving as a voice for EMS professionals statewide.

To be eligible, candidates must be a WEMSA member (Individual or Department Memberships ONLY) for at least two years prior to applying. A letter of reference must be submitted as part of the application.

Why Serve on the WEMSA Board?

Board service is not only an opportunity to give back to the profession but also a strategic career move. As a WEMSA board member, you will:

  • Gain leadership experience in a statewide professional association.
  • Have a direct impact on EMS policy, education, and workforce initiatives.
  • Expand your professional network with industry leaders, legislators, and fellow EMS professionals.

This volunteer leadership role is a chance to make a meaningful difference in EMS, ensuring that providers receive the support, education, and advocacy they need to deliver high-quality emergency medical care across Wisconsin.
