Each month, WEMSA members will be able to access a free online webinar exclusive to members only! Accredited for 1 CEU, each month will feature a different topic that is relevant to a variety of EMS levels. These educational webinars will be the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 pm. You must register for the course using your member profile to ensure you have access to the Zoom link. The link to the webinar will be emailed to you. September's topic is What's New in Pediatric Prehospital Trauma Care – 2025 Update
Course Instructor: Dr. Michael Kim, Co-Chair for Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services for Children & Pediatric Medical Director for the ALS Consortium of Dane County EMS & Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine & Pediatrics for the UW Madison Department of Emergency Medicine.
Course Description:
This session will provide an overview of current best practices and updated recommendations for EMS providers caring for pediatric trauma patients in the prehospital setting. Topics covered include prehospital hemorrhage control techniques, considerations for cervical motion restriction, and changes to pediatric trauma triage based on the National Guidelines for Field Triage of Injured Patients. The session will also highlight relevant quality improvement metrics and preparedness strategies, including pediatric readiness elements and available tools to support system-wide pediatric emergency care improvements.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

Identify updated transport decision-making strategies for pediatric trauma patients, including criteria for direct transport to pediatric trauma centers.

Describe new approaches to bleeding control in children, including pediatric-compatible tourniquet use and TXA application.

Explain evidence-based updates in pediatric airway management and cervical motion restriction (CMR).

Recognize the importance of pediatric-specific QI metrics and how they impact trauma system performance.

Understand how EMS agencies can assess and improve their pediatric readiness through coordinated planning and use of national guidelines.
