Each month, WEMSA members will be able to access a free online webinar exclusive to members only! Accredited for 1 CEU, each month will feature a different topic that is relevant to a variety of EMS levels. These educational webinars will be the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 pm. You must register for the course using your member profile to ensure you have access to the Zoom link.
June's topic is The Heat is On - Heatstroke.
Course Instructor: David Brenner, LaGuardia Community College
Course Description: Heatstroke is a deadly condition brought on by hyperthermia. Worldwide, heat emergencies are increasing. Prompt recognition and the right actions can make a huge difference in the patient's outcome. This lecture includes case presentations, pathophysiology, epidemiology, assessment and treatment strategies, and fire-ground considerations. The continuum of care will be looked at, as well. Strategies for prevention for the public and those in emergency services will be discussed. Attendee/Presenter interaction is encouraged.
Learning Objectives:
- The attendee will be able to identify the common underlying causes of heat stroke.
- The attendee will be able to describe the physiological consequences of heat stroke.
- The attendee will be able to identify the appropriate treatment strategies for heat stroke.
- The attendee will be able to identify 2 different types of heat stroke
