Step 1: Find the EMS Training site closest to you

Congratulations in taking this next step towards launching your career in health care! Begin by looking for the closest training center. Take note of all tuition/fees, specific class requirements, and the time frame of the program's classes. Approved Training Centers can be found on the Department of Health Services (DHS) website.

Step 2: Find & take the Program You are Looking for

Search the DHS website for an approved program (EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic) and apply! Complete the program and take the NREMT national test. Don't forget to sign up for a WEMSA Student Membership that gives you access to free accredited education.

Step 3: Take the NREMT and get Nationally Registered

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is the nation's organization responsible for certifying emergency medical professionals by assessing their knowledge and abilities in EMS. Passing this exam can be challenging; however, further guidance and resources are available to help you succeed.

The Wisconsin EMS Office manages all licensure, renewal, and credentialing through their license management system. The Wisconsin EMS Office is run by the Department of Health Services.

Step 5: Find a department & Apply

If you haven't already done so, check with your local department or use WEMSA's Career Center to search open jobs across the state. You can also access our Career Center services to improve your resume, prepare for interviews, and more.

Step 6: LAND THE JOB! SAVE A LIFE!
