Considering County Consolidation?

County Administrators,

My name is Marc Cohen and I am the Executive Director of the Wisconsin EMS Association (WEMSA) and President of the Midwest Emergency Services Alliance (MESA). I represent over 7,000 member EMTs and Paramedics in Wisconsin and the over 18,000 brave men and women who respond 24/7/365 to 911 calls. There was a national news story last week on EMS shortages and the crisis rural and volunteer EMS is currently on NBC National News. Here is the story.

The Wisconsin EMS Association regularly receives calls about consolidation and County-based EMS. There are currently only a handful of countywide EMS systems. I was contacted after the story aired by a County Administrator regarding this issue. He was interested in information, resources, pros, and cons, etc. on exploring a Countywide consolidated EMS system.

I am reaching out to you and all of the County Administrators to let you know that we would like to assist you by providing information and resources if there is a decision to explore consolidating into a County EMS System. There are currently a handful of counties in Wisconsin that provide County EMS.

WEMSA has a consulting arm called the Midwest Emergency Services Alliance (MESA). We would be honored for the opportunity to answer any questions about this issue and provide you with consulting services related to the development of a sustainable system to provide delivery of out-of-hospital care to the people of your county. We would also like to be considered should you send out an RFP for this service.

Drawing upon the experiences and expertise of our team of professionals responsible for the development and execution of such County-based systems of care in Wisconsin, we believe MESA would have a significantly positive impact on your ability to understand the opportunities and challenges the county EMS model presents.

Below is some information about the Midwest Emergency Services Alliance and look forward to the opportunity to discuss this further with you. I can be reached with the contact information below.

Sincerely,

Marc Cohen

MESA President
