Office Construction Project

The Wisconsin EMS Association Board of Directors and staff members are pleased to announce the construction of a new office building to house the entire Wisconsin EMS Association operations. Watch right here as we chronicle the entire process from finalizing the plans, tearing down the existing structure, breaking ground, completing the shell, designing the interior; right up through move-in early in 2009

Current Activity
  • July 12, 2009 - Following the WEMSA Board of Directors meeting, the building project has been officially deemed completed. Minor items remain along with a "punch list" of items for the builder to address. However, the construction phase and budget are now closed. Future expenses will be posted to the general budget. This will be the final entry to the current activity log.

  • July 1, 2009 - Eleven months after the first piece of dirt was moved, the building is essentially completed. Everything on the exterior is done. A few odds and ends remain inside, but all are very minor in scope. The WEMSA staff has been working from the new building since early May. The project will be officially termed complete at the July 12, 2009 Board of Directors meeting.

  • June 16, 2009 - Security camera access has been configured on-line so staff can monitor the building and review camera recordings from any Internet connection. The electronic keypad has been installed on the front door. Various shelves and cabinets have been installed.

  • December 22, 2008 - The electricians have started to wire the building both inside and outside for all electrical connections. Three electrical services are planned: one for common areas and exterior lighting, one for the majority of the building, and one for the media studio and potential future expansion.

  • December 21, 2008 - Rough plumbing, the shower stall, natural gas lines and water lines have all been installed.

  • November 25, 2008 - The masons have finished with the outside brick work. Once the front entrance unit is installed the building will be secured. Much of the HVAC duct work has been installed.

  • November 21, 2008 - Due to several reasons, the portions of the building originally specified for hardy plank siding will now be brick. That means the entire exterior will be dressed in decorative block and brick with no portions done in wood siding.

  • November 10, 2008 - The masons are making significant progress on the outside brick work. Most of the building is full brick with only the rear portion using hardy plank siding.

  • November 7, 2008 - Duct work has started for the HVAC.

  • September 23, 2008 - The concrete floor has been poured.

  • September 16, 2008 - A maze of 3" PVC piping has been laid into the floor. This will allow for data, audio, video, cable TV, phone, and other wires to be pushed underneath the floor into the various offices.

  • September 9, 2008 - Framing for all of the outside walls has been completed. Roof trusts have been ordered. The steel beam for the front entrance has been placed.

  • August 29, 2008 - Lumber has been ordered and has started to arrive. Following the Labor Day weekend, labor is scheduled to start with the framing of exterior walls. This will be some of the most tangible evidence of progress.

  • August 28, 2008 - Sewer, drain and water lines have been set in place within and below the current stone flooring base. Having all of these items in place clears the way for the internal floor to be poured when all of the other items are ready.

  • August 27, 2008 - Water and electrical lines have been ran below the ground to the existing well on the far northwestern corner of the lot. They now enter the structure on the wall closest to the well and then to the utility room within the cement floor.

  • August 22, 2008 - Backfilling has been completed around the entire structure. Next up the crew will start framing the outside walls. At the same time, engineering for the trusts will be completed and trust construction will begin at the lumber yard.

  • August 14, 2008 - The concrete footings have cured for a full week. The forms for the poured walls are in place and the walls have been poured. Another seven days will be needed before backfilling takes place.

  • August 5, 2008 - With the necessary documents in hand, the initial excavation has been completed and the footings poured. Block and preliminary utility connections are the next items on the schedule.

  • July 21, 2008 - State, county and local approvals have all been obtained along with the necessary building permits. While original bids from the various sub contractors are now firmed up, the project is still moving forward starting with excavation for the foundation.

  • July 1, 2008 - The Wisconsin EMS Association has started to work on obtaining donations from anyone who is willing to provide goods or services in the spirit of supporting our non-profit organization. Michael Hood, Director of Sales and Customer Service, is the person to contact if you might be able to help. Examples of just a few of the items we are currently hoping to find donors for include a 12' garage door with opener; dumpster service; on-site toilet services; Silt fence with installation; Site survey for staking the building footprint; Phone, data, and video network installation. If you or someone you know can help to make the WEMSA offices a reality, please contact Michael Hood directly at 414-755-2774 or mikeh@wisconsinems.com. Recognition that could also include magazine advertising and conference sponsorships may also be available to those who donate.

FOLLOW ALONG FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION
With a final price tag expected to top three quarters of a million dollars, the Wisconsin EMS Association office project is the largest and most expensive that the organization has ever embarked on. Once completed it will provide the necessary infrastructure to catapult the Wisconsin EMS Association through the next 10 to 20 years of progress. Large enough to house over one dozen full-time workers and spacious enough to host meetings with 25 or more participants, the Wisconsin EMS Association offices will serve to play a significant role in the organization's success.
