Keith Wesley welcomed the
newest members of the committee, Franz Keilhauer and Michael Curtis (via
conference call). Each person in attendance introduced himself or herself.
Minutes
from the June meeting were reviewed. Motion
by Bill Perloff, seconded by Jim Berner to
approve the minutes. All
Present - Aye.
Copies
of the NAEMSP curriculum were distributed earlier for review. The EMS Board
supports the requirement for all Medical Directors in Wisconsin to have some
type of training. The committee agrees that the course should be tailored to the
Wisconsin environment. Ideally the course would be web-based, interactive and
would encourage long-term involvement of the individual.
An accessible medium is advised; CME would create incentive; funding for
the coursework development was discussed. Each member then volunteered to
provide edits to the NAEMSP modules as follows:
Module 2 - Systems--Robinson/Wesley
Module 3 – Medical Oversight--Westphal
Module 4 – EMS as a community resource--Curtis
Module 5 – Personnel & Education--Keilhauer
Module 6 – State-specific discussions--Barney
Minimum
care guidelines were distributed to all PAC members prior to the meeting.
Appropriate edits were made to each of the templates which will be sent out in
the new draft format.
Rick
Barney presented an overview of the EMT-Intermediate Enhanced data. (enclosure)
Data for the in-field portion of the pilot study occurred via approximately 3820
chart reviews with data presented on specific interventions, e.g. medications
and skills. Accuracy of Ecg interpretation was also evaluated, as well as the
prehospital impression of illness or injury. While there were some problems
cited, it was felt that these could be corrected with proper training; there
were no adverse actions. The committee recommends that the program should be
continued and that it would be extended to all WI services by the end of 2001.
With the new proposed licensure categories, the program would become the new
intermediate.
Bill
Perloff will distribute the new text for the PEPP (Pediatric Education for
Prehospital Professionals) course for discussion at the next meeting.
